By new educational standards that are to be in place in 2014 state that nonfiction must be used in the classrooms: at least 70% of books students read should be nonfiction. Nonfiction books tend to have a stigma.They are boring, dull, dusty books that tell information as dryly as possible. What student wants to read that? And what teacher wants to deal with trying to force their students through a book that not a single one of them likes? Well fortunately nonfiction books have had an upgrade. Many nonfiction books being published now contain the same sort of flair and storytelling power as fiction books. It’s just a matter of finding the right books for the content that you are teaching and then incorporating them successfully into the classroom. Social studies, science, and math teachers can also use nonfiction books in their lessons, which will help to incorporate cross-curricular reading. There are so many books that teachers from any subject can choose from and there are so many different ways that teachers can use those books in the classroom.
